Black history today is ironically a brand. Caribbean slaves were branded by their owners, today we have the WIndrush brand. I knew/know the 'Windrush generation' personally, they have many and varied stories, the Windrush brand is simplistic and politically convenient. More than this the historical timeline in the UK seems to jump from Slavery to WIndrush to Black Lives Matter. My own generation (children of the 'Windrush generation') seem to have been written out (for now). With ancient history, nuances, personal stories and recollections don't matter so much, everyone is dead. With modern history we are dealing with living breathing people, most of whom have no control over the historical narrative. My argument then, is that it is perhaps it's too early for black history, maybe it hasn't been made yet, maybe it never will be.
