Where Should The Future Of The Centre-Left Lie?
The Equiano Project collaborated with Persuasion to host an event aimed at exploring the future of centre-left politics.
The centre-left, both in the UK and around the world, faces tough challenges from various angles. On one side, there are left-wing critics who question the universal ideals of free speech and equality. On the other side, right-wing identitarian populism is gaining traction.
We were privileged to have two remarkable speakers on the panel: Dr. Rakib Ehsan and Simon Fanshawe OBE. The discussion was moderated by Equiano Project director, Inaya Folarin.
Several topics were explored during the event, including:
Does the left hold a pessimistic view of the UK and ethnic minorities, and how can they address this issue?
How can the left ensure that their political ideology does not revolve around the politics of victimhood?
What strategies can they employ to navigate complex issues like identity and freedom of speech more effectively?
How can they reinvent the notion of the common good, understanding that reaching it does not require total and complete agreement?
