Across Europe, the once-confident story of multiculturalism is faltering. What began as a hopeful project, built on the belief that diverse communities could thrive together in liberal societies, is now under renewed scrutiny. Debates over immigration, identity, and national cohesion dominate headlines, and at the heart of many of these discussions lies Islam—too often politicised, rarely explored with depth or nuance.
For some, Islam is portrayed as a challenge to Western values; for others, it becomes a stand-in for broader unease about social change. Yet what’s often missing is meaningful engagement—with the faith itself, with the diversity of Muslim experience and with the difficult conversations that are also happening within these communities.
This is what makes our upcoming event at The Tabernacle so timely and so necessary.
Bringing together a panel of thinkers who have long been at the forefront of conversations around faith, liberalism, and public life, this evening offers something rare in today’s culture: a space for serious reflection on some of the most consequential social questions of our time.
This will be a carefully curated and deeply thoughtful discussion, creating room for a nuanced, respectful, and layered exchange. Our panellists will not shy away from difficult questions, but they will remain fully committed to the integrity of dialogue.
This is the final call to be part of the conversation. Only a handful of tickets remain. For anyone invested in the future of Britain—whether policymakers, students, faith leaders, educators, or engaged citizens—this is a chance to reflect, listen, and explore what comes next.

Islam, Muslims and Liberal Democracies
An evening to discuss Islam’s place in Western secular societies
The conversation continues.
Next month, we gather again to explore another pressing question: After Woke, What Comes Next?
Musa al-Gharbi, in conversation with Ralph Leonard and chaired by Helen Lewis, will discuss the future of progressive politics and the cultural contradictions of today’s elite. Based on al-Gharbi’s book We Have Never Been Woke, the panel will explore whether we’re moving into a post-woke era—and what might come next.
Stick around afterward for drinks and informal conversation. Tickets and info on Eventbrite.
And There’s More…

What an amazing line up for HowTheLightGetsIn! People I admire greatly, such as Stephen Pinker, Lionel Shriver, David Starkey, Frank Furedi, David Goodhart and, of course, Inaya; people who, let's say, I don't admire quite so much, Jeremy Corbyn, Nicola Sturgeon, Malcolm Rifkind; people I've never heard of, but with fascinating job titles! There should be some insightful and stimulating discussion :-)
Seriously??? Jeremy Corbyn? Nicola Sturgeon? What a fraud you turned out to be.
